Art Babych is an award-winning reporter and photographer based in Ottawa. He was employed for several years at top radio and television stations in Western Canada including Calgary and Edmonton before moving back to his home province of Saskatchewan, where he worked at CFQC Radio-television in Saskatoon and also CBC radio. He then turned his sights to the print medium, eventually becoming editor of the Prairie Messenger, the official Roman Catholic newspaper for Saskatchewan and Manitoba. After four years he accepted to become the first Parliament Hill correspondent for Canadian Catholic News, a news-sharing co-operative operated by seven of the largest Roman Catholic newspapers in Canada including the Prairie Messenger. In so doing he became the first religion reporter to be accredited by the Canadian Parliamentary Press Gallery. During his 12 years as a member of the gallery, Art also provided reports and photos to news agencies and newspapers across North America, including the U.S-based Catholic News Service, Religious News Service, and National Catholic Reporter. From 2005 to 2015 he was editor of Crosstalk, the newspaper of the Anglican Diocese of Ottawa, which won numerous awards from the Canadian Church Press under his watch. Art has also served as photographer for the Anglican Journal at recent General Synods of the Anglican Church of Canada. In addition to winning several photography awards from the Canadian Church Press, Art has received reporting awards from the Radio and Television News Directors Association of Canada, the Canadian Church Press, the Associated Church Press in the U.S. and the Catholic Press Association, also in the U.S.
